Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb will preside over URBAN 2020’s Jury

Let’s start 2020 with a sensational news: we are very proud to announce that Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb, the worldwide famous couple of American photographers, will preside over the Jury of the eleventh edition of URBAN Photo Awards, which will be held from March 1 to May 31, 2020.

The two great artists will be part of the URBAN Super Commission of Jurors (one of the many new features of this year): Alex Webb, as President of the Jury, will personally choose the Winner of the Single Photos section. Rebecca Norris Webb will choose the Winner of the Projects & Portfolio section. We will shortly announce the third international Super Commission photographer and the other members of the jury.

Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb will also be the main guests of the next Trieste Photo Days festival in North-Eastern Italy: they will personally award the Winners during the Awards Ceremony of the contest on Saturday October 24, 2020, and also hold an exclusive lecture and a public talk.

Alex Webb has published more than 15 photography books, including The Suffering of Light, a survey of 30 years of his color photographs. He’s exhibited at museums worldwide including the Whitney Museum of American Art, N.Y., the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. A Magnum Photos member since 1979, his work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, Geo, and other publications. He has received numerous awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2007 and NEA grant in 2019. His most recent books are La Calle: Photographs from Mexico and the collaborations Slant Rhymes and Brooklyn: The City Within with Rebecca Norris Webb, his wife and creative partner. He’s currently photographing in cities across the U.S. for the work-in-progress, Out of Many.

Originally a poet, Rebecca Norris Webb often interweaves her text and photographs in her seven books, most notably with her monograph, My Dakota—an elegy for her brother who died unexpectedly—with a solo exhibition of the work at The Cleveland Museum of Art (2015). Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and Le Monde, and is in numerous collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. A 2019 NEA grant recipient, Norris Webb’s most recent book, Brooklyn: The City Within (with Alex Webb), will be exhibited at the Museum of the City of New York from March-fall 2020. Her eighth book, Night Calls—in which she retraced the route of her 99-year-old father’s house calls through the rural county where they both were born—will be released in September 2020.
